Grade:3/6 | Length | 16km | 300m | Sydney Branch
Esther | |||||
The Great North walk is a mammoth multi-day hike and at 250 km, it’s not for the faint-hearted. Created in 1988 to celebrate Australia’s bicentenary, the walk links Sydney with the Hunter Valley and Newcastle. It is a one-stop-shop for some of the best scenery New South Wales has to offer.
To make it more convenient, we will walk in sections. Public transport is available for the first few sections. Subsequent sections will mostly require car transport. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to walkers who attend all sections.
Today we walk Section 1 : Macquarie Place to North Ryde. The first segment starts from Macquarie Place, corner of Bridge and Loftus Street. The enjoyable walk takes into history, seaview, grand houses, gardens, and churches. Kookaburras, lorikeets, boats, orchids, grand trees and plants were seen along the way. This walk involves a ferry ride. The second segment is a lovely bush track along the Lane Cove River. Cormarants, herons, brush turkey, lorikeets and other birds are expected to be seen. Wildflowers abound. Salt Marsh, sandstone caves, trees and plants are all very lovely. Please include your mobile no when RSVP. Slippery sections. Map: Sydney Limit: 20. View |

Grade:4/6 | Length | 11km | 200m | Sydney Branch

This is a walk which must rate as one of my favourite in the Gardens of Stone National Park. The views along the way are quite frankly incredible with wide ranging vistas of Pantoneys Crown and the Capertee Valley as we seek out and explore such beautiful spots as McCleans Pass, Dead Tree Camp Canyon and Point Cameron before returning the same way. The pagodas along the way are a photographers delight and you would be hard pressed to find a better skyline traverse. Rock scrambling and some off-track walking. Steep and slippery sections, creek crossings. Location: Lane Cove River Park Map: Lane Cove Limit: 15. View |
