From the Appin Road entrance of Dharawal National Park we head north along the 10 b cycling trail and do little of the 10 r track. It is an unsealed road through open forest and woodlands along a sandstone ridge with a picturesque picnic spot along the way and a broad rock platform. Birds, including the raucous yellow-tailed black cockatoo, inhabit the area. Creek crossing.

Using various beach accesses, alternate between beach and behind the dunes to return to cars.

Explore the gorge, eventually linking with Genowlan Mountain Trail at about GR 256 330. Next, visit The Grotto and Ladders Defile, before walking back to the vehicle. Partly exploratory. Scrambling and exposure.

Cycle | A cycling tripLed by Herbert Frey & Leslie Reddacliff. Park at Mt Bushwalker car park, ride north along Tianjara fire trail. Short walk to lookout for morning tea. Then on to lunch on Kangaroo Hill (views, war history and magic overhang). On return trip we visit another lookout, then the “Ravines”. The fire trail is extremely steep in places, following repairs to the road and installation of drainage humps, and bikes will need to be pushed up these! Walks are confined to well-trod routes to avoid risk from UXO’s.
